Please thank Reps. Pierce and Riecken for helping to shed light on the problems in HB 1234 and to get Rep. Thompson to promise to get them fixed in the Senate.

HB 1234 passed third reading and final passage today in the Indiana House of Representatives by a vote of 63-27. During questions by Rep. Matt Pierce (D-Bloomington) to the bill author Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton), Rep. Thompson agreed to amend the bill in the Senate to address the concerns expressed about the impact on residential solar and geothermal system owners.

Rep. Thompson stated that this language was to address a perceived problem due to a county assessor increasing the assessed valuation (AV) from the system and hence bumping the homeowner up against the 1% residential property tax cap.

Not sure I understand what Rep. Thompson thinks the problem is but he seems sincere about fixing it if it has an adverse impact on homeowners who have invested in solar and geothermal systems.

A BIG "Thank you" to everyone who wrote or called their state legislators. I think we are well on our way to getting this problem fixed.
